Aster

The September birth flowers are the aster and the morning glory. The aster stands for patience, and the morning glory for love and affection.

Aster

The name aster comes from the Greek word for star, after the shape of its thin, radiating petals. Asters bloom from late summer into autumn, feeding bees and butterflies when little else is in flower.

Morning Glory

Each trumpet-shaped morning glory opens in the early light and fades by the end of the day. That short, daily bloom has made it a symbol of tender, passing affection.

As a gift

A pot of asters is a thoughtful September gift, since it can be planted out and return in the garden. More birth flower gift ideas.

As a tattoo

The star-like petals of an aster stay crisp in a small design, and a morning glory vine makes a graceful line. More birth flower tattoo ideas.
